5:30 am. As I sipped my morning coffee, I watched the news, laughing at the weatherman's comment, "Its going to snow at least 2 inches today. Gonna start around 2pm and snow til 8 pm. I wouldn't be surprised if they dismissed all the schools early." To be fair, Tennessee does not have the road plows and salt trucks that other states might have, and there are some pretty curvy neighborhoods. I argued with the weatherman in my head. Don't get the student's hopes up- or my hopes up for that matter. I went to school, just wondering if the weatherman was right. The teachers were nervous, but the students for the most part didn't know it was going to snow. At 1:00pm, the principal made an announcement saying that school was going to cancel an hour early. Instead of being excited, my students were terrified. Would their parents know when to pick them up? Would they be safe on the bus? Has it ever snowed in Tennessee before? What if the electricity went out? Anyway, we dismissed them, assuring them of their safety in this- their final hour. My teachers were worried about us driving home in the snow that was not sticking to the roads. The four interns piled into my car and it took us 50 minutes to get home instead of the normal 45. We had a snow day the next day- I mean... of course we did- there were 2 inches of snow on the ground.
