Let me tell you a little about my day. I’m a grad student on the Teacher Ed program at Johnson. It’s Labor Day… A National Holiday (Also, Hat Day, Darrell’s birthday, and Booms Day- but people don’t normally get off work for those). I had to present my proposal at 9:30 this morning. I am working on an Action Research Project- a fancy name for a thesis. Anyway, I presented today- no big deal. A half hour, and I’m done… Right? Wrong. I knew I had to make some revisions, but I thought… An hour tops, and the rest of the holiday is mine. When I finished the revisions, I found out that I had to show Dr. Syester the revisions this evening. Tonight! Only the biggest day of the year in Knoxville. Labor Day is Booms Day in Knoxville. They close the main bridge in town and throw ten million dollars worth of fireworks. It’s a big deal. Everyone goes. The college doesn’t even feed anyone on Boom’s Day.
Ok.. I was getting a little annoyed by this time, but I was still a little optimistic. I thought, “maybe I’ll be done by 6:30 and I will be able to get there in time.”
Wrong again. I waited for three hours, only to find out that I have to come back tomorrow afternoon. Don’t get me wrong… I still get to wake up at 5:20 and teach most of the morning, but I have to leave school early to go over my revisions.
So, here I am, sitting at my computer, watching the grand finale of the fireworks by myself on a fuzzy TV.
So how was your day?
