Tonight was our dorm meeting. We talked about all sorts of exciting topics, including the prohibition of drugs, alcohol, posters of the pornographic kind, and intervisitation rules. Intervis is a word very often talked about here at GCC. It's those coveted weekend hours where you can enter dorm rooms of the opposite sex. I know, I know, you're thinking "how lame...you have restricted dorms". I for one don't mind. I feel safer, more comfortable, and I don't have to worry about bumping into some guy scratching himself on the way to the bathroom at 7am. However, I definitely think that there are some huge disadvantages to these restrictions.
It's around 11:30. You have just come back from a grueling study session at the library and want nothing more than to forget that you ever signed up for....well, whatever class it was. The only reassuring thought is that soon you will be back in your own room where there is nothing but peace and relaxation. Unfortunately, that dream is shattered as you near the door to your dorm. On either side of the entryway, amidst the shadows, are a dozen couples smooching, groping, tongue-wrestling, and whispering sweet nothings. It's like one big hormonal obstacle course to make it to the door; but you arrive triumphant, with only minor feelings of nausea. Breathing a sigh of relief, you make your way to the dorm lounge to look for a friend. One peek in the door is enough. You don't really know what the couple in the corner on the couch was doing, but that's perfectly okay with you! You escape upstairs to bed and the sanctity of your own room.
So I still haven't made up my mind exactly how I feel about dorm restrictions. I know you Johnson people have a lot more restrictions, but I don't know if I'd want to go so far as to outlaw kissing completely from the campus. At the same time, I like having all-girls dorms. That just seems a little much. I wish they'd put some hormone controller in the water or something though.
