Could a man think without words? "Yes, a man can think without words." But didn’t you just arrive at that conclusion using words in your thought process? Can you think about thinking without words without using words in your thought process? But what is a word? Isn’t a word merely a symbol of the ‘thing in itself’? That is, a word is a representation of an idea. But what is an idea? And what relationship is there between ideas about reality and reality [itself]? "No, a man cannot think without words. That is, words are necessary to the thought process." Really? How then does a word (which represents an idea) precede the idea itself? That is, how can language which serves the purpose of representing thoughts and ideas precede the very thoughts and ideas themselves? Of course, consciousness precedes language. Therefore, it seems logical to conclude words are not necessary to the thought process. While we may now think with words, it is highly doubtful our thought process began with words. What do you think?
