Okay, this post is going to be drastically more serious than the last, but Darrell really wants me to write something and this is the only thing I can think to write about right now. My school (Concord Christian School) is a ministry under First Baptist Church. The Elders of the church have brought up the proposal that as of August, 2002 Concord Christian High School will no longer be under the church. If someone wants to take the initiative to start up a regional independant Christian High School, they are welcome to take over CCHS. However, if no one steps forward, CCHS will cease to exist (at least for the present and never again under FBC's "wings") and the children will be forced to look into other Christian schools or local public schools. Although part of the problem is financial reasons, the main reason that FBC is making this decision is that the Mission statement of the High School and Church are too different to continue together. We were told that although the purpose of a Christian elementary school is to raise children up with truths to help them through life, the main purpose of a high school (Christian or non) is to teach them skills they will need for a vocation or college. Some of the people feel that being in a Christian environment is bad for the kids because it shelters them too much. What do you guys think about the situation?
