Saturday I accomplished something that some only dream of...
I accomplished something that some said could only be done in hollywood movies about Jamican bobsledders or teenage hockey players...
Not many can lay claim to what I did. Not many will even experience the awesomeness of it, but it is quite possibly one of the most amazing feelings in the world..
Cassie's Dance recital was Saturday night. Joe, Jamie and I loaded up and headed off to Concord auditorium to watch our dear friend tap her way to fame. She did quite well, I've never been to a dance recital before so I didn't really know what to expect. It was a lot of fun, and the dancers certainly have a lot of talent, especially Cassie who was in 9 different dance numbers and pretty much choreographed everything else. Quite amazing if you ask me. Anyways, it was right around the end of the show when it happened.
You have to understand to actually pull off a move like this, you have to be in the right place at the right time and you have to actually know when that right time is. You can't just go around and try to do it whenver you feel like, no it doesn't work like that...
The last dance number of the night, the kids poured onto the stage and waved their glowing wands in midst of the black lights and music. Suddenly, a hiccup in the sound system caused the show to come to a screaching halt. Sources say that a wire to the soundboard suddenly came unplugged and thats why the music stopped. But me, Well I think it's because God wanted me to accomplish one of my life long goals.
The kids began looking around, confused and lost, without their precious music they were like deer in headlights. The dance instructor searched desperatley for a solution but came up short. The crowd grew impatient and a soft murmur started humming throughout the audience. Thats when I realized it. This was it. THIS WAS THE TIME. It was do or die. I turned to Joey.
"Dude... Slow clap!"
Joey noded
"Slow clap!"
We started... softly at first, due to our own insecurity.
clap........ clap...........clap
Jamie chimed in.
clap....clap....clap
Soon people to our right started on the legendary slow clap.
clap..clap..clap..clap
Like a rolling thunder, the slow clap swept over the auditorium. My guess would be nearly 1000 people... all engulfed in what seemed like a movie moment. As more and more people joined, the pace quickened... soon the clap turned into one big cheer. The crowd grew excited, as did the dancers. Encouraged by the clap they proceeded to finish the dance with no music...
I successfully started a slow clap.
