I never understood this when I was younger, but teachers want snowdays every bit as much (if not more) than students. When I had the pleasure of going to school in Manchester, snow days were few and far between. In fact, one day the entire state of Massachuttes had a snow day. All of New Hampshire had a snow day, all that is EXCEPT Manchester! Put on your snow shoes and go to school, that was their motto!
And now, here I am in Knox county TN, and the days of watching all the area school districts close while yours is still ready and on time continue. Knox county has 5 build in snow days in the school year, which is strange because it hardly ever snows 5 times a season. But alas! Those snow days will go unused! Our children will needlessly attend school for 5 days when they should be out enjoying themselves!
Of course we did have an one hour delay once this year. They decided to delay school at about 7am, school starts at 7:35. I live about 45 minutes from the school...math scholars will conclude that I was already on my way to school when they made this lovely annoucement. So were most of the children. So instead of letting them in the classrooms, they all had to stay in the cafeteria and watch videos for an hour...
and that leads to a whole other story about our audio visual policy... But that shall be saved for another day.
